Why do we support carers?
At The Rose Thompson Foundation, the needs and experiences of carers are fundamental to our work as well as our origin story.
Before becoming one of the country's leading cancer information specialists, our late founder Dr. Rose Thompson was also a cancer carer. While in the middle of her studies at radiotherapy school, Rose’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and sadly passed away at the age of 47, when Rose was 19 years old. It is because of these experiences as a carer for her mother that Rose developed her lifelong passion for enhancing cancer services and information for global majority and low-income communities.
Through Rose’s story, as well as our years of working with diverse communities affected by cancer, The Rose Thompson Foundation recognises the importance of supporting carers in their own journeys - not only as a vital support for so many patients - but as individuals with their own support, wellbeing and cultural needs.
