My 2nd Marathon for The Rose Thompson Foundation
On August 17th, I will be running my 2nd marathon: The Two Tunnels Railway Races marathon in Bath. It was precisely 5 months prior to this date that I ran my 1st: The Sherwood Pines marathon in Nottinghamshire.
During the 1st, I discovered many lessons, but the one thing that remains with me is that at the point of exhaustion and despair, there is always hope. I believe that is what my aunt believed and what The Rose Thompson Foundation's service to society delivers every day. I thought of my aunts often during that race and will undoubtedly carry them with me or they'll carry me, during the 2nd.
During my first we raised £675, and I will continue to run as long as my ability and determination to run marathons continues to flow. Because in some small way, this is one way I can assist the work The Rose Thompson Foundation does.
So Why Am I Running?
My mother, my auntie Rose, my other aunties, the family and definitively, to raise money and support for those affected by cancer. Short family history: My mother has six sisters and one brother, three of whom have passed from breast cancer, and one, her eldest sister, is currently championing her battle with the disease. Dr. Rose Thompson, my aunt, who founded the charity, spent her life with a singular purpose and path; to support cancer sufferers - patients and carers - with her charity The Rose Thompson Foundation.
About Dr Rose Thompson
Auntie Rose or Dr. Rose Thompson, to most, began her journey with cancer when her mother (my grandmother), died from breast cancer at the age of 47. Auntie Rose was a teenager. Incidentally she was studying Radiotherapy at the time and became a leading Radiographer some years later. Her life as I’d always known it, was supporting cancer suffers tirelessly, which she continued to do even while she also had the disease. She created many initiatives, wrote reports, and addressed the House of Commons to aid cancer sufferers; particularly women and people of colour. Finally, I cannot sum her up sufficiently here, but, I can share her vision: which was to establish a state-of-the-art Cancer Resource Centre in Nottingham, and I’ve settled on supporting this mission. She passed in 2023.
How You Can Help
All I ask is, to whomever is reading this, to contribute whatever they can to support this vision, no amount is too little. All donations isn’t just support of myself in helping to fulfil this mission, but also a belief and extension of her vision.
My Goals
- Raise £1,500: Fund Support Groups for cancer patients and carers for at least 6 months.
- Raise £2,500: Fund Support Groups for cancer patients and carers for at least 12 months.
- Raise £5,000: Fund Support Groups for cancer patients and carers for two years.
- Raise £90,000 to purchase facilities for a culturally appropriate state-of-the-art Cancer Resource Centre.
Thank you for your support!
